I ran into this, and eventually tracked it down. Hopefully this will help if someone else runs into ti.
It's a nagios (not nems specifically) thing.
My issue was ad midnight, nagios would stop. The log would say "caught SIGSEGV, shutting down" and shutdown.
Apparently under certain circumstances, if you have a host under scheduled downtime, at midnight when the logs roll, this happens.

I don't use the downtime feature alot, but putting the host back into monitoring, was a work-around.

If this becomes an issue, I can write a hacky fix or improve the usage of monit to restart Nagios when it happens.

It's not much of an issue for me, one I figured it out. It took me a while to connect the downtime setting to the problem I was experiencing. Thanks for the offer.
