Static IP

Post by edembskey »

Just did a fresh install of 1.4 on a second Pi. Restored a backup from my original 1.3 Pi.

Tested 1.4 on a DHCP assigned IP and it worked perfectly.

Copied my /etc/dhcpcd.conf across and shutdown the original Pi.

No number of reboots will stop the new Pi from getting an IP from DHCP, though my /etc/dhcpcd.conf works perfectly on 1.3

So, what could I be doing wrong?

Hi edembskey,
Setting a Static IP this way isn't supported in NEMS Linux. My official suggestion is always to use DHCP reservations in your router, not static IP addresses on the device itself. Allow the NEMS server to obtain the network settings via DHCP but have your DHCP server/router dish out a reserved (static) IP.

NEMS 1.4 is a complete rebuild, so by using unsupported features of the base OS, you're likely to run into things that "don't work" anymore if they're not supported.

Sorry... that has to be my "official answer" otherwise I'll be fielding support questions about Debian instead of NEMS. :P
